This new series of MacDonald’s stories culminates a forty-year attempt that began in the 1970s to acquaint new generations of readers with the works of the man C.S. Lewis called his spiritual “master.” Throughout that time, it has been my prayerful life’s work to make MacDonald’s writings and ideas accessible and understandable to persons of all backgrounds with a complete range of literary interests. I have tried not only to expand availability of MacDonald’s writings, I have attempted also to shed light on how those writings can most fruitfully be read, interpreted, and placed in the context of MacDonald’s life. Listings of my own original writings, both fiction and non-fiction, are easily accessible from many sources in which, often indirectly, I try to point readers toward MacDonald. Most of the publications that bear specifically on MacDonald, as well as my new and edited editions of his books, are listed below.

ENDNOTES
Foreword to The Cullen Collection
* A word of clarification at this point will hopefully alleviate minor confusions that may arise about certain usages of punctuation and capitalization. In speaking of the original texts of MacDonald’s books, a phrase such as the “texts by which they are generally known,” is not really accurate. For most of MacDonald’s books there are no absolutely authoritative texts. Editions vary widely, even so-called “first editions.” This is a theme that will be developed in the introductions to other editions of The Cullen Collection, and is a fascinating study in itself. Suffice it at this point to say that punctuation and capitalization varies. Sometimes the differences are between U.S. and U.K. editions—American publishers capitalizing lower case words from the British editions (in addition to changing words such as labour, honour, odour, parlour, neighbourhood, etc. to their American spellings). This is especially the case with the God-pronouns He and Him. MacDonald usually wrote these in the lower case, as he did nouns of direct address in dialogue—mother, father, aunt, uncle, your majesty, etc.—which are occasionally capitalized in U.S. editions.
