To Frances Hallowell, who isn’t me but is parts of me. Really, she is the parts of me that scare me the most, shoved into a book about grief and fear and love in all its forms. In so many ways, I grew up right alongside Frances. I began this series at twenty-two, alone, sitting in my childhood bedroom, terrified of what my life was going to be. I finished this series at thirty, married, settled into a life filled with so much love, it sometimes feels like I might burst. I like to imagine Frances found herself a similar kind of life, that she learned to live with the ghosts in her head too.

A final thank-you and hug across space and time to everyone who saw themselves in Frances. If I could leave you with one final message, it is this: you’ve never been difficult to love, not for one minute. I happen to love you a lot.
