Thanks to General Elijah Wadsworth for founding Wadsworth, Ohio, in 1814 so I could grow up there two centuries later and subsequently write this book about it.

To my parents: I’m not sure why you’ve both tirelessly supported me in all my ridiculous schemes, but I am so thankful you have, and I think, somehow, it’s worked out.

And to my partner, Bert: it’s very funny of you to say that you’ve contributed nothing, and even funnier to say that this is the first actual book you’ve read, but I’m not sure that’s true (about your contribution, not your reading habits). You are my closest confidant and greatest friend. Thank you for everything.
