On June 5, she admits to being present at a party “somewhere in Fairfield.” On the exact address of her location, she is unclear. During the course of the party, the suspect met JUSTINE K. Suspect states that immediately after meeting Justine, she “blacked out.” In further interviews, she states she had a “fever.” She also states she has “a fucked-up memory.”
The suspect thus provides no details as to the incident which occurred in the alley between Yates and Pandora Street at approximately 2:35 A.M.
The following is a preliminary synopsis of information homicide detectives have gathered in regard to Shaw:
On June 5, Shaw was at 1345 Bramley Crescent in Fairfield. Location is a known “party house” rented by LUCE TATHERS, a known heroin dealer and harborer of Red Zoned youth.
Shaw was intoxicated on alcohol, amphetamines, and possibly heroin.
According to witnesses, she was “falling all over the place…making out with some guy…being really obnoxious.” Heroin use was rampant, and “she seemed really fascinated by all the junkies.”
Statements from witnesses LILY LESAGE and CHARMAINE CAMPBELL are enclosed.
Shaw did not black out but, in fact, left the premises with Justine K. at approximately 12:15.
“They were holding hands and whispering.” Lesage is very clear on the time of 12:15: “I remember thinking they were my little sister’s age and she would never be out so late because she has an 11:00 curfew.”
Lesage and Campbell came to the police on their own wherewithal after hearing of the attack on CHEK-TV. “When the reporter said it was supposedly two teenage girls, we just had this chilly feeling and we knew it was those two.”
They proceeded to correctly identify both suspects from photo ID lineup.
Note: Lesage and Campbell are willing to testify. They are 21-year-old theater students at the University of Victoria. We find them highly credible and of good character.
At approximately 2:00, the two enter the premises of the King’s Hotel. We find it noteworthy and a potential additional felony under Section 126 that Shaw failed to provide an account of the following event:
The bar was closing, and ROADHOUSE (MARK KLASSEN), the bartender, was approached by Justine K. She demanded a six-pack and said it was not for her but an adult friend. Klassen informed her that he could not serve or sell to a minor. He has had numerous dealings with K. in the past as she often sneaks into the bar and “flirts with old men and tries to get a rise out of loggers. She just likes to start shit.” When he refused to sell her off-sales, “Justine got really belligerent, like she always does. She also screamed that she was not a minor, but a major.” Klassen states that he informed the proprietor, HEINRICH GUNTHER, that the “tiny terror” was on the premises and to alert the police because “I couldn’t handle her. She was out of control.” He briefly glimpsed Shaw and noticed that “she was laughing…she seemed to be getting a kick out of the whole scene. She looked vaguely familiar, but I can’t be sure that I’ve ever seen her before.”
