‘Or perhaps there’s something we’re supposed to see here.’ Caro tapped a finger against her lips as she surveyed the small room. In a flurry of movement, she darted under the table, checking for secrets.

Posy followed her lead, checking behind the door, under the windowsills, while Rosalind tried the handle of the other door inside the room, which presumably led to the stairs up the turret.

‘Locked,’ Rosalind reported, then returned to the table, leaving Posy and Caro knocking on stones and searching ledges.

‘Nothing.’ Caro hopped up onto the edge of the table, which looked like it might be considering collapsing, but a stern look from Caro persuaded it otherwise. ‘This must just be some sort of prank.’

Posy shook her head. ‘I still think it has to do with the film. Why send the script pages, otherwise?’

‘You mean this supposed curse?’ Rosalind asked, eyebrows raised in amusement.

‘No. Well, not really. But things have been going wrong for the production. I wouldn’t be here if they weren’t.’

‘And she has a point about the pages from the script,’ Caro added. ‘That has to mean something, right? Of course, I was kind of hoping it might mean a part for me, but it seems not.’

‘I assumed the script page meant that someone wanted to use my influence for … something to do with the film,’ Rosalind admitted.

‘And I thought it was a threat,’ Posy said. ‘That someone was out to ruin the film.’

Caro gave her a knowing look at that. ‘Your photos are that bad, huh?’

Posy didn’t answer.

‘Caro’s right. It’s probably a prank,’ Rosalind said decisively. ‘Best forgotten quickly before anyone starts laughing.’

Posy thought of those shots of her slumped over the railings outside Damon’s house. Someone had gone out of their way to get hold of those, she was sure. She had the feeling that the others’ photos weren’t so … career ending. ‘No. I don’t think so. The photos …’ she stopped before giving away too much, but her face felt hot at the memory.

Caro tapped a finger against her chin again. ‘Marcus. It has to be. He wants us flustered and running about trying to catch a blackmailer, so he can laugh and tell us it was all another one of his games.’

‘Do you really think so?’ Posy asked.

Caro nodded. ‘Besides, it was Clementine who delivered the notes,’ she said, absently, as she hopped off the table. ‘Probably on Marcus’s orders.’

Posy stared at her, aware that Rosalind was doing the same. Caro looked up from gathering the notes and handing them back.

‘What? Oh? Didn’t I mention that part?’

‘No. You did not.’ Rosalind’s voice was clipped as she grabbed her note and strode to the doorway. ‘You can explain as we walk.’

‘Where are we going?’ Caro asked. ‘Oh, to find Clementine, right?’
