‘No. I mean we need to each share what was in the photos we were sent yesterday.’ She could trust Rosalind and Posy, she thought – well, hoped she could, anyway – but a dose of honesty from each of them would help. ‘They’re another piece of this puzzle and, to be honest, I think we need all the pieces we can get. I didn’t ask before, because—’

‘Because you didn’t want to share your secrets either,’ Rosalind finished for her. ‘The same reason I didn’t, and I imagine it was Posy’s reason too. But you’re right. It’s time.’

‘But it’s not just the photos.’ Posy’s voice was low and steady, her shoulders stiff as she stared them down. ‘You both have history with this place, with these people. I want to know everything you two know before we go any further. I’m sick of secrets.’

‘Darling, I’ve been alive for sixty-plus years,’ Rosalind drawled. ‘If I live to be a hundred I don’t have time to tell you everything I know.’

Posy stood her ground. Caro had to admire that – even if she didn’t like what she was asking.

‘Everything that’s relevant to the case, then,’ Posy countered. ‘And that’s everything to do with Aldermere, the victim, or any of the suspects.’

‘In which case you need to tell us everything you know about the film and the people involved in it,’ Rosalind said, sharply.

Posy’s jaw tightened. ‘Fine. Caro, you start. Since this is your idea.’

‘I’ve already given you my secrets, and told you everything I know about what Marcus was up to.’ Caro jumped up and paced to the edge of the Murder Spiral’s inner sanctum. ‘The photos I received were of Marcus and I. In bed. Seven years ago, now. And there was a note on one of them warning that there was video footage, too.’ She turned to face them, her back against the monkshood’s purple flowers – but carefully not touching – and crossed her arms over her chest, her right eyebrow raised and red lips pursed. Her favourite Dahlia look. Ah, it was good to be back. ‘Which rather means it’s over to you two, don’t you think?’

‘I told you earlier that Anton was behind the talk of a curse on the movie.’ Posy’s voice sounded suddenly smaller. She’d folded in on herself, her arms wrapped around her middle, her hair falling over her face as she looked at the ground. ‘He leaked the original script, and I think he called in a tip-off that started a fraud investigation on one of the investors. And, before he cast me as Dahlia, he paid my ex-boyfriend to invite me over to his flat and get wasted. Which I did, because I was an idiot, and I thought …’
