“Eh, books aren’t really my thing, just so you know. But I’m here, use me.” He waggled his eyebrows. Angel pictured a number of different ways she’d like to use him, none of which would help her pass her finals. Well, maybe anatomy. She grinned back.

“How about quizzing me on these terms?”

He read the first line. “Je-sus. Vasovagal syncope. That sounds nasty.”

She tried not to laugh while swallowing a mouthful of hot coffee. “It means you’ve fainted.”

“Is this Latin?”

“Some of the terms are. But maybe if you just read the first line of description to me, see if I know the name…”

“Okay, I can do that.”

“Thank you.”

“But I have to say one thing first. Remember that day you heard Roland and me talking about the ugly finder?”

She cocked her head to the side, sifting through her limited memories with this beautiful man. “Us who? Ugly what?”

“That first day at the Peacock, when you brought Roland and Aaron and me water while we were talking about my charity game, when a hitter put a foul right in the dugout. That kinda foul is called an ugly finder—”

“Yeah, okay. I remember. You were making fun of the guy who got hit.”

“No, Roland was making fun … Anyway, I’ve been thinking. You’re my ugly finder.”

“I—Huh?”

The Duke laughed. “You found my ugly and you knocked it right out of me.”

For the next twenty minutes, the pitcher from the Bronx Bolts sat with her in the musty library and peppered her with question after question. He kept his hat low, slouched in a chair with his ankle propped on a chair. He was wearing the gold high-tops with his name stitched on them, but with his back to the room he was anonymous in a sea of students.

Angel knew who he was. The famous guy who’d given her four orgasms the night before.

“I know you have other things to do. You don’t have to spend your day with me, not like this. I’m sure you’re bored out of your mind.”

“Come on, I know your test is in a few days.” He put down a stack of flash cards. “I can’t stay forever, but I want to help. Though I have to go as soon as my idiot father calls back.” He rubbed his foot against her calf under the table, sending a thrill up her leg. “You are totally kicking ass! You’re a pro when it comes to memorization. I’m impressed. I couldn’t remember any of this stuff.”

“That is so not true. You must have to memorize plays and calls and everybody from the other teams and how they bat … I think you’re selling yourself short.”
