I had a blast! I love the movie—it’s a wild, out-of-control romp—and, as someone who for years has worked alone, I loved the experience of working with talented and creative people. I very much want to do it again!
It must be a dream come true. Will you be back in the director’s chair any time soon? Turning one of your own novels into a movie, perhaps?
Two words. Ice Station.
Have we lost you to Hollywood? Are you writing your next book yet?
Ha! No, you haven’t lost me to Hollywood. Writings novels is still something that I love doing very much and I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing that! I’m 46 now, and I’ve been writing novels professionally for 23 years. The idea of moving into a new phase of storytelling appeals a lot. Making movies would be a nice thing to do in between the books. Maybe that’s what I’ll do: make a movie, write a book, make another movie. That’d work for me.
While I have started a new novel—a standalone—after this last year with The One Impossible Labyrinth and Interceptor, I need a bit of a break, so it’ll be a while till I finish it.
Any final words?
I always say at this point that I just hope readers enjoyed the book. For this one, let me add that I hope they found some closure and satisfaction.
I dedicated it to my fans because they read my books with a sense of fun and enjoyment and yet also with deep attention to the details: for that reason, this book had a lot of detail in it, detail that readers of the whole series would appreciate. So for this one, let me say, I hope you enjoyed the whole series and its conclusion.
But I will return . . .
