‘Happy as the moon,’ said Elle, insensibly. It was more like something Penny would say, but it was exactly how she felt. A kind of happiness that came from knowing that everything had come together, as she had only dreamed it would.

No matter what trials this family had faced over the years, she, Penny and Ned always had each other, and they would always have the hotel.

Penny and Colin were married in the garden at sunset, right in front of the sea.

It was dusk, so the fairy lights sparkled and the sun lent its last rays of warmth to the guests before they made their way inside to the ballroom. It was a night to be remembered by everyone in Mulberry Bay as one of the most successful occasions ever held at the hotel. The speeches were hilarious, there was dancing and singing and good conversation.

Once more, the hotel’s walls shook with music and its rooms were full of people who were happy, in love, or simply content with the way things had turned out.

The next morning Elle walked alone from the beach back to the hotel, thinking about how different the place looked from when she had first arrived home after her beloved mother’s death.

Not just the physical renovations that had been made, but the whole feeling of the place. Before, the hotel had been reeling from loss and the sadness and hopelessness that had gathered there after her death.

Much like the Harte family.

But now, it seemed to hold itself up straighter, its windows twinkling like laughing eyes and saying: I knew it would all turn out perfectly in the end.

Just like Anna herself might have said.
