Chapters (17)
Crap, here’s where I die. Lucas was suddenly certain that there was nothing he could do to avoid the spells, but as soon as he braced himself for the inevitable, a giant arm wrapped him up and moved him out of the way.
“Spin, spin, spin, spin, spin, spin—WIN!!!” Dennings shrieked.
Curious as to how things were going to play out, Lucas tried peering out from around the protective monster’s arm, but Smash held on to him too tightly. Rowland blessed him with a heal a moment later, and only then did Smash finally let go.
Dennings tore through the mob, her wicked area-of-effect blade attack slicing through everyone in its path. Previously, she had spun in more or less one spot, but this time, her neon-green, glowing Chi attack pushed forward at a frantic speed. She cut everyone in her path in half, parting the mob of foes like Moses before the Red Sea. Then she crashed into a wall and was stopped dead in her tracks.
“Sooo dizzzyy,” she complained. But this time she didn’t seem as disoriented. Lucas watched as she easily recovered and began spinning around once more.
“Smash, let’s go!” Lucas told his new Grobendiss buddy. “We can do this! You and me!”
“HONEY!!!” Rowland shouted from the back. The Knight began running across the throne room. “I’m coming, honey!! I won’t let them hurt you!”
“Smash, let’s get your Lady and retreat back,” Lucas suggested. “Only you’re strong enough to carry her.”
“Ten eyeballs. You owe me ten eyeballs,” the big Grobendiss said as he darted toward the still-twirling Dennings, who was now making her way down the hall.
As if seeing their approach, Dennings suddenly stopped spinning and grabbed on to her head. “Sooo dizzzyyyyyyy . . .” She collapsed to the floor with a loud groan just as a swordsman struck out at her. The player's weapon cut through the air in a vertical attack, but just before it cut down into her, Smash reached out and blocked it. Then, seemingly without a care in the world, Smash reached out, picked up Dennings with his free hand, and retreated back into the throne room. Dodging an Earth Spike, Lucas covered their escape by letting out a burning Fire Breath on the unfortunate eight people that followed too close behind them.
“Let’s go, little man!” Smash shouted. He then grabbed and threw Lucas over the log that he was holding on his left shoulder. Lucas landed right beside Dennings, whom the Grobendiss had apparently tossed up there moments ago.
As soon as Lucas was back inside the throne room, he let himself fall off the makeshift log mount and shut the doors. The task was much harder than it should have been because each door was blocked by at least five or six bodies, which he had to shove out of the way. The doors had been broken open earlier, but Lucas figured that it would still be possible to push them closed and barricade them. Once he was done, he turned to Smash and said, “Use your log and help hold the door closed.”
