- About the Author
“That obviously didn’t go over very well,” I suggested. He shook his head.
“She told me that he had cut off all communication with her and that he refused to believe it was his child. Not that I could blame him if he didn’t believe it. Still, I thought it was cold even for my father. He had flown over on the private jet with us, so he was in town too. I told her as much.” I could see from the slump of his shoulders that just having done that made him feel guilty for the ultimate demise of his father.
“That was pretty much the end of the argument. The next day was quiet and went as planned, though I saw that someone had taken pictures, made assumptions, and posted them all over the internet. I tried to get in touch with you, but nothing was going through. Calls were rejected and texts went unanswered.”
“I don’t understand why,” I told him as I glanced down at my phone once again. “There’s nothing on my phone. I never tried to get in touch with you because I thought you were the one who needed to explain things, but there was nothing. It’s most of the reason why I went to the mountains. I needed to get away and be somewhere that made it at least a little difficult for me to see the news and possibly find out that something horrible - where I was concerned - was happening.”
“Something like me forgiving her and leaving you?” He asked me.
I shrugged my shoulders. “I can’t help the way I felt,” I explained.
“I know, Mina. We’ve already been over that. I don’t blame you for feeling that way.” He sighed. “I couldn’t get you on the phone and I worried that might be the case. Wes convinced me that you were just being hardheaded. He was supposed to call his sister to check on you, but Luna wouldn’t tell him anything. She said she wasn’t his spy.” We both got a small laugh out of that. Luna was my best friend for a reason. I would have to thank her for the loyalty she showed in not giving up information on me to her brother. It must have been a tough call for her to make.
“Do you have your phone here?” I asked as I thought about why I wouldn’t have received messages from him.
“It’s over there,” he tipped his head in the direction of the table beside his bed. I reached over and grabbed it.
“Do you mind?” I asked and waited for an answer before holding it up to his face so that it would unlock. Once it did, I pulled up his contacts and found my name. I hit dial, then glanced down at my phone to wait. Nothing happened. “Hmm,” I hummed before opening up the information on my contact entry. “I don’t suppose anyone else had access to your phone?”
