“What did you say to her?” Tucker was the one to ask the question, and I wondered when he had gotten there and how much he had seen. This was a complete disaster. Of all the times to have a panic attack and flashback, it had to be when one of them was there and apparently called the others to witness my humiliation too.
“They already heard plenty,” Luna whispered in my ear. “Is it okay if I fill in the blanks so they understand?”
Our eyes connected as she asked the question, and I knew she was only doing what she thought was best. Truth be told, I didn’t know what happened in the outside world – outside of my own mind – when flashbacks happened, but from what Wes had just said, I must have talked about what I was experiencing from my past. The damage was already done, if that was the case. I nodded to Luna.
“Do you want me to do it in here with you, or take them out in the other room while you get yourself cleaned up?” I glanced down at the mess I’d made of myself. Part of my shirt was soaked, and my arms were actually bloody in spots. I knew what that was from. It had happened once before, when I tried to claw the restraints away from my wrists, only the restraints didn’t actually exist outside of the memory.
“You know what?” Luna asked as she stood and patted my shoulder. “Sit tight, I’m going to bring you some ice and get the first aid kit. We need to take care of you first, then we’ll worry about filling them in. I’ll be right back.”
Wes followed her out of my room, but Tucker came further inside and sat down beside me. He didn’t say a word. He just wrapped his arm around my shoulder, pulled me tight up against his side, and held onto me as if he was keeping all my fragile pieces together. I didn’t have the strength to fight his hold, and he had obviously seen enough already to know I was completely broken. So, instead of fighting, I just let everything out and silently cried into his shoulder.
“You scared me, hell, I think you scared everyone here, Mina. What happened? What brought all that on?”
I didn’t know how to answer his questions because I couldn’t find my own voice. Instead, I sat there tucked into his side as Luna came back into the room with Wes on her heels. The woman, who was proving that she was absolutely my friend and that I could count on her, quickly got busy taking care of the injuries I’d caused. As she did so, she started telling the men about my history, the event that caused the flashback.
They sat quietly, listening to the whole horrible tale and realizing that some of the things I’d said when I was lost in the memories could be plugged into what they now knew happened. Wes left soon after hearing everything. I knew he felt guilty for triggering the flashback, but he couldn’t have known, and I asked Luna to go after him and make that clear.
