  35. About the Author

“In India, it was the same story. Christian meetings took place all over the country, attended by throngs of people. Millions more were converted after watching Christian television programs and movies. In India, at least a hundred million people professed faith in Christ.

“The largest church in the world, with a million members, was in Seoul, South Korea. This great church published Korea’s largest daily newspaper. Then they began sending missionaries to Japan, other parts of Asia, and the United States.

“Thousands of Christians in the Philippines volunteered as missionaries to Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and the Persian Gulf.”

Dave stopped him. “Whoa, man! That’s more than I can handle. How did you do that?”

John Edwards chuckled. “Dave, I didn’t do it. A sovereign God caused millions of people all over the world to get involved. The Bible says that Jesus is the head of the church and the church is His body. Every Christian is like a cell in a human body. Each cell grows according to the DNA built into it. But it moves because of signals from the brain.

“When you think about it, the church did the harvesting. But since Jesus is the head and the church is His body, then the apostle John was exactly accurate in saying that Jesus was the one who was swinging the sickle.”

Dave was awestruck. “You know, man,” he said, “I played ball. I belonged to a church. I believed in Jesus and tried to live for Him. But I had no idea that all this was going on. The Lord is something else!”

“Now, Jack, for the sixty-four-thousand-dollar question,” Carl said seriously. “If that was the good harvest, did yesterday start God’s harvest of wrath?”

“You must understand,” John said, “that I don’t sit at God’s hand to learn what stops and what starts. But from the best of my knowledge of Scripture, God’s day of wrath has come. Certainly for the past ten years there have been very serious natural disasters to warn the world of what was coming.”

Two questions—really, two parts of the same question—kept eating at Carl and pushing him. Why were we spared? What purpose is there for us? Yet, the answers still eluded him. He rocked back in his chair and reflected on what he was hearing, then looked at John Edwards. “Charley showed us some things last night about the meteor, about the waters that were poisoned, which he said could be radiation fallout, about earthquakes and volcanoes, and about darkness and famine. Horrible enough. But is there more?”
