- About the Author
“A little. He would wait until the last minute, then he was always hurrying. I wanted him to stay but he wouldn’t.”
“I hope you told him,” he said.
“I did. But he didn’t say anything, and then the next time he did practically the same thing all over again.”
“Are you going to see him this weekend?”
“He mentioned something,” she said. “I haven’t made up my mind. If I decide not to see him, I’ll probably have to cut history. It will be the only way to avoid him.”
“I thought you said you had a book review to turn in.”
“I know, I know. Listen, if I go to class and this fellow asks me out, can I tell him that you want to give me a test Saturday night—that you’ve scheduled other people and this will be the only chance you’ll have to give it?”
“That’s a complicated lie, Norma,” Dr. Roberts said.
“I know, I was thinking of it Sunday when he was in the bathroom.”
He stared at her. “You could tell him that whether I knew or not, couldn’t you?”
“Yes, sure, but it would be easier for me if you went along with it.”
