  34. About the Author

She felt like Dorothy in the Land of Oz. Lauren had seen a few pictures of luxurious airplanes, but she’d never seen anything quite like this one. This space was the size of an apartment. Uncaring that she stared, she wanted to soak this in, every last detail.

“Amazing, huh?” Felicia asked.

“I’ve never seen anything quite like it.”

There were plush recliners with built-in notebooks, reading lights, and red-and-white duvets with the famous red G embroidered on them placed on each one. “I was a flight attendant for twenty years, and I retired two years ago. When I learned that Globalgoods.com was searching for a senior flight attendant to assist Mr. G and his staff, I immediately came out of retirement and applied for the job. I have to say, it’s not really work. It’s exciting every day. I’ve met fabulous people, famous people, and what I like to call regular people. A dream job, for sure.”

Lauren felt a kinship with Felicia at once. She smiled and reluctantly told her she had a terrible fear of flying.

“Ms. Montgomery—”

“Lauren, please,” she said,

“Lauren, you won’t even know you’re flying once this girl is airborne. It’s the ultimate experience. Have a look at this,” she said, leading her across the large expanse to a door she hadn’t noticed.

Inside was a bedroom, as large as her own, with a king-sized bed in the center. Curved walls surrounded the bed, yet there was plenty of room for one to walk around.

“And there’s this.” Felicia pushed a button. The curved walls opened, revealing a giant flat-screen TV, bookshelves, and a minibar. “And take a look at this,” she said, then pushed another button, which opened a door to a giant bathroom.

“This is the best part,” Felicia said. “A shower, a tub, and all of this.” She motioned to a variety of luxury toiletries, perfumes, colognes. Lauren couldn’t imagine anyone having this aircraft at their disposal.

“I’m starstruck, for lack of a better word,” she said. “Are you sure I’m supposed to be in here? It’s so, I don’t know, out of this world.”

Felicia smiled. “I feel the same way every time I bring a new guest aboard. Mr. G is an awesome employer. He lets his employees use this plane for our personal vacations. We’re entitled to one week per year, and needless to say, it’s booked, though Mr. G’s travel plans come first. If we have to cancel a trip owing to his change of plans, he gives us an extra three days added on to our vacation. Personally, I think flying in this beauty is the best part of any vacation.”

“He really is a generous man,” Lauren said. Intrigued, she couldn’t wait to meet him and learn his life story, and hoped she would do him justice when she began writing.
