The passenger door opened, and Molloy’s face appeared, looking worried. “We have a problem. We’re trying to get a pathologist up here. The State Pathologist’s Office never want us to move a body before they get here but the road from Strabane to Derry is flooded …”

“Uh oh,” I said. “That’s not good.”

“We’re hoping to get some extra backup from Letterkenny too, but we have the same problem there. The roads are impassable. So we’ll have to stay put until someone can get here.” He looked at Maeve. “Are you okay to stay?”

She nodded silently.

“Do you know who it is?” I asked.

Molloy nodded. “He had ID on him. A wallet in his pocket with cash, a driver’s licence and credit cards. His name is Bob Jameson.”

I looked up, my eyes wide. “I met him last night in the Oak. He’s part of that Malin to Mizen charity cycle. I think he might be the head honcho.”

“Right. Well, that’s something at least.” Molloy narrowed his eyes as if trying to recollect if he’d seen the man himself. “Large man? Blue shirt?”

“Yes. That’s him.”

“I think someone pointed him out to me. Do you know anything else about him? Family?”

“His brother and wife are here too. They’re all staying in Mary’s guesthouse in Glendara.”

“Okay, good. We’ll need to get a medic of some sort out here as soon as possible. Because we’re going to have to move the body soon. We can’t leave it out here in this. It could rain again any second.”

“What about Harry?” I suggested.

“Already done,” Molloy said. “He’s on his way.”

Chapter Eight

HARRY ARRIVED WITHIN about twenty minutes. I half-expected Marina to be with him – she hadn’t returned to my cottage in Malin so I assumed she’d stayed with him – but he arrived alone. He parked behind Molloy’s car, then exchanged a few words with Molloy and McFadden before approaching the body. He glanced briefly in the direction of the squad car, brow furrowed, but if he saw me, he gave no indication. We hadn’t spoken since our little interlude last summer. He’d kept his distance before I left, and the only time I’d clapped eyes on him since my return was the morning before with Marina.
