“Ah, thanks,” she says in surprise, slipping into the car. “Seat belt,” I tell her before shutting the door. When I get into the driver’s seat, the sweet smell of honey fills my lungs. Is it her shampoo? It could be lotion or possibly just her natural scent. Whatever it is, it only makes her more appealing to me.

The silence in the car lingers as I pull out of the driveway and through the gates. “The fitting for your dress is today?”

“Yes.” She stares out the window, not giving me any more of an explanation than she has to.

“Going to that party tonight?” I try again, wanting to know more about her. That gets her attention. Her head swings around.

“I don’t know.”

“West seemed rather persistent.” It’s hard to keep the edge out of my voice. I roll to a stop at the light. My gaze drifts back to her. The skirt of her uniform has risen up her thighs. I can’t help but think about pushing it up farther. My cock jerks, but my irritation only grows. Does it do that when she’s at school and she sits down?

“You shouldn’t read people's phones.”

“And you should be more careful.” I reach over and pull her skirt back down. My fingers graze her inner thigh. Her mouth falls open. I’ve surprised her. Hell, I’ve shocked myself.

Every time I sit down now, I can’t help but check my skirt. Asher’s touch still lingers, and it was hours ago. I’d been so damn shocked we’d ridden the rest of the way in silence. He barely pulled up to the school and I was jumping from the SUV. I’d been so pissed at his words and actions, but I’d also been turned on. I press my thighs together, thinking of it all over again.

What is going on? I don’t understand this man, but I swear whenever I looked his way, he was staring at me. All through dinner, and then again this morning. I can’t step outside my room without him being there. I really don’t get him. He’s hovering but then seems to be annoyed when he has to be around me. Why even bother offering to drive me? None of it makes sense.

“Yo.” West drops down in the seat in front of me in my Chem II class.

“Hey.” I give him a smile, checking the clock on the wall.

“Are you coming tonight?”

“I’m not sure.”

“You’re terrible at texting.” He drapes his arm across my desk.

“Been studying, and there is a lot going on at home.”

“That’s right. There’s a party at the Scores’. I heard my parents talking about going. I might swing by.”

“Yeah, I think it’s going to be pretty big.”

“Class is dismissed,” Ms. Quinn announces at the front of the room.
