  16. Don't miss out!

“Okay,” she said, her voice a bit shaky. He led her down a path toward the river. She could hear it before she could see it. They had had a lot of rain recently, and it was raging.

As they finally got over to the edge, she saw a huge overlook deck. It was built out of lumber, but parts of it were also built out of tree limbs. It looked like it was meant to be there, nestled in the middle of the woods.

"You built that?"

"I did. The people who own this property wanted a place where they could sit overlooking the river, have family dinners and so forth. Their house is way up there on the hill. You can barely see it."

She looked up and saw a log cabin built into the side of the mountain. "It's beautiful, almost like a piece of artwork. Can we walk down there?"

"Of course. Let me help you," he said, taking her hand and helping her walk down the steep path toward the river. Although she was wearing her workout sneakers, they certainly weren’t the best for hiking down a mountain.

They made their way down the hill and onto the platform. She could tell that he did good work. It was sturdy and well designed. It didn't stick out like a sore thumb in the middle of the wilderness. Instead, he complemented it in a way that she couldn't really describe.

"This must've been really hard to build down here. How in the world did you even get all of this lumber down the hill?”

He flexed his muscles and smiled. "You don't think these muscles got built in that rinky-dink gym, do you?"

She laughed. "Well, I have to say I have a new respect for you. This is amazing. Do you work by yourself?"

He nodded. "Yes. I've never been able to find good help that was reliable and up to my standards. So, it might take me a little longer but I always do everything myself."

"Impressive. I could see myself having dinner here, overlooking the river. It must be beautiful at sunset."

"Tell me when."

"What?"

"You tell me when you would be willing to have dinner with me at sunset sitting right here, and I'll make it happen."

She smiled. "Why don't we go look at the next site?"

They walked back up the hill and got into the truck, Kate’s stomach full of butterflies. Had he just asked her on a date? And was she really considering it? This was crazy. First of all, he was totally not her type. Second of all, she disliked him immensely about half an hour ago. And third, she would likely be leaving after the wedding in July, so getting anything started with a local guy wasn't going to be a good idea.
