Mia chuckled. “She’s got you there.”

“Fine. But take your phone and be back in no more than an hour.”

“Got it,” she said, walking up the gravel drive and out of sight.

“That kid’s going to be the death of me,” Kate said as they walked around the side of the B&B.

“Oh, she’s a doll.”

“I love her. I do. But this kid, I don’t know at all. She’s actually being pleasant. Back home, she was like having a wild animal in the house.”

“Over dramatic much?” Mia said, laughing.

“Maybe a little,” Kate said, cutting her eyes at her sister.

“Okay, so show me what you’ve got.”

Kate pulled out a notepad that she’d sketched her ideas on. There were drawings and notes all over the place. Mia giggled.

“What?”

“Nothing. You just remind me of Momma.”

“Why?”

“She wrote notes just like that. They were all over the place. In fact, she loved to use the backs of the envelopes from bills we got in the mail. She was constantly asking where the phone bill was, but not because she needed to pay it. She had a recipe or something written on it.”

Kate smiled slightly. “I do the same thing.”

“Genetics are a strong thing, I guess.”

“I guess so.”

“You know, I’m happy to answer any questions about Momma or anything else when you’re ready. I mean, if you’re ever ready for that.”

“I know. And thank you. This is all new to me, Mia. You had her your whole life, and I’m just not sure I want to open that can of worms. I hope you can respect that.”

“I do respect it. So, show me what you’re thinking.”

Kate pointed to different parts of her drawing as they walked the property. Mia was impressed with her organizational skills and knowledge of what they needed to pull this huge wedding off. She knew for sure there would be no way to do this without her.

“Right here is where I think we should put the dance floor. I think we should hire a local contractor to build it for us. Do you know anyone?”

“No, not really. I’ll ask around, though.”

“Okay. With the gazebo, I think we should also get someone to extend it so we can have smaller weddings completely inside of it, with the backdrop being the lake.”

“More weddings?” Mia asked with a laugh.

“Hey, if we can pull off Lana Blaze’s secret wedding, you can certainly host smaller ones, right?”

“We’ll see.”

“Come on. I want to show you what I’m thinking for the patio space…” Kate said, as Mia followed behind her like a lost puppy dog.
