He sucked in a breath and stooped to put Daisy on the ground. ‘Sweetheart, go and play with your cousin Zoe for five minutes.’

Daisy ran off happily and Alex followed her with his eyes for a few seconds, checking that she was safe. Then he turned his attention back to his wife.

‘Come with me.’

He took her hand and walked along a path that wound its way away from the guests towards an ornamental lake.

‘Where are we going?’

‘Somewhere more private.’ Alex flashed her a smile. ‘Since I’m aware that you don’t like public displays of affection.’

They reached the lake and he hauled her into the shade of a weeping willow.

‘Now, then, Jenny Westerling.’ His voice was loaded with promise and he pushed her against the tree trunk, blocking her escape. ‘What were you saying about loving me?’

She gave a moan and lifted her mouth for his kiss.

Heat flared between them and Jenny wrapped her slim arms around his neck, trembling as he deepened the kiss.

When he finally lifted his head, neither of them was smiling. ‘Damn.’ His voice was husky. ‘Let’s go home.’

Still in the grip of sizzling sexual attraction, Jenny stared at him stupidly. ‘Alex we can’t.’

‘Jenny, I want you. Now.’ He stroked her hair away from her face with a hand that was far from steady. ‘We either leave, or we make love here and risk an audience. Your choice.’

Her knees were shaking. ‘Alex, the children—’

‘Will be more than happy to leave, too,’ he said gently. ‘Believe me, Dad isn’t going to notice whether we’re here or not. He’s too busy networking. Frankly I’d rather get home to the cottage where I can rip that dress off you and do what I’ve been longing to do since we left Cornwall this morning.’

Jenny blushed. ‘Alex, it’s only been about eight hours since we—’ She broke off, thoroughly embarrassed, and his blue eyes gleamed with amusement.

‘Yes, angel? Since we…?’

Jenny looked at him helplessly. It didn’t matter how often they made love, she still wanted him with a desperation that shocked her.

‘I love you, Alex,’ she breathed, and he gave a groan and lowered his head to hers.

‘And I love you, sweetheart. More than anything in the world. Let’s go home.’

And they did…

ONE SUMMER IN PARIS

by USA TODAY bestselling author Sarah Morgan!

Grace Porter woke on Valentine’s Day, happily married and blissfully unaware that was about to change.

Downstairs in the kitchen she added slices of cheese to the bread she’d baked fresh the day before, put fruit and raw vegetables into lunch boxes and then checked her list.

Number four on today’s list: remind Sophie about dinner.

She glanced up. “Don’t forget Dad and I are out tonight. Your dinner is in the fridge.”

Her daughter, Sophie, was messaging a friend. “Mmm…”

“Sophie!”

“I know! No phones at the table—but this is urgent. Amy and I are writing a letter to the paper about that development they’re going to build on the edge of town. Dad promised he’d publish it. Can you believe they want to close the dog shelter? Those dogs are going to die if someone doesn’t do something, and that someone is me. There. Done.” Sophie finally looked up. “Mom, I can make my own lunch.”
