I. BREATHE: Breathing, and it’s already done. The running was over, my legs were tired from it. It was my whole body, my lower back especially, and my legs, all of the individual parts of my legs were sore. The fatigue was not only physical but mental, it arrived and instructed me to sleep. That’s what I did, for many days, and when I awoke I was still tired. There is such a thing as too much sleep, and I had had too much of it. I can’t explain what has already happened; it’s already done and needs not be repeated. If you missed it, I’m sorry. But this thing, it’s done and my body aches from it.

II. SPACE HEATER: What we wanted was the sun, but it hadn’t come. We turned on the space heater, to get things going and to know something of warmth and comfort. The water bottle was almost emptied; I cannot say what happened to its contents. Under my arms there’s a sign that deodorant is needed, not a smell but a feeling. Sticky.

III. MIRRORS: What of mirrors? Not the mirrors in our homes, not the clean ones, but those outside, those located in the common spaces. What of these reflective surfaces that cannot complete their intention? What of them? How can we help them? When I’m out in a place that holds mirrors and people, I’m disgusted by these surfaces. Grease and time and contact have stained them, burdened them, they are dented or scratched. They are set against colors that cannot complement them; they reflect individuals who do not brush their bodies with washrags. They reflect the tiles that need replacing, the bottles of top-shelf liquor. The bathroom stalls are sometimes made of stainless steel, bought with the hope of imperviousness to rust or bacteria, and these bathroom stalls, these partitions are sometimes reflective. They are mirrored and they are scratched up like hell.

IV. A THEFT: Everything that is reflective is mostly on a car, a white car or an orange car. And in the corners of these spaces, a petal, a petal or when you move closer it’s an arm. An arm or something. Or when you leave your bag behind on a bench, or a wall that can be sat upon, what do you do with that loss? A bag that can hold almost everything, all the things that necessitate movement? There’s so much that can fit in a bag that doesn’t even belong in a bag, and therefore the loss of such items can be profound. A straw bag can be lifted from your shoulder without notice.
