When he realized that Hina and Asrar were going to come out of the river, he started floating on the water’s surface and reached them. They looked at him in amazement. They praised his beauty. Zumani Khaliq told them that they had been forgetting each other again and again and he had been noticing this for thousands of years. So, he wanted this never repeated and them to stay together always and not forget each other even for a moment. On hearing his convoluted talk, Hina asked, ‘How is it even possible?’ He said, ‘It’s easy but the knowledge of it lies with the creator.’ Since he was Jabaraan Zumani Khaliq, the creator had shared the secret with him. Asrar said that if he was able to tell them how to save themselves from this forgetfulness, they would always remain grateful to him. The transformed form of Zumani Khaliq said, ‘But there’s a condition.’
‘What is it,’ Hina asked immediately.
‘It’s very easy. If the creator inquires about this, you will not remember my name.’
Hina and Asrar thought over this for a while. Then they said in unison, ‘We agree.’
Zumani Khaliq told them that they should lie down on the grass next to the river with their eyes closed. A tree would bend its branch towards them. There would be a fruit on that branch which they should taste a little. And when they would open their eyes after eating a bite from that fruit, ‘The House of Souls’ would be a new world altogether.
Zumani left.
Hina and Asrar followed his advice. When they opened their eyes, there was a change in the form of their bodies because they had tasted the fruit.
Hina and Asrar, drowned in bliss, kept looking at each other for years. The passion of intermingling had acquainted them with a unique intoxication. They touched each other’s body and then intensely kissed with their lips. The body of the other was very dear to them. In fact, since the time they had been acquainted with the wisdom of this body, nothing else in the ‘House of Souls’ seemed to impress them any more. They spoke about each other’s body and that gave permanence to their memory.
The House of Souls was witness to Hina and Asrar making love an act in which for the first time their bodies were participating. The bodies were the source of their song of love. The entire creation and the objects were all dancing in this song while the creator seemed to be distressed at the failure of his experiment.
Hina felt Asrar taking in her body. The feeling led to the birth of shyness.
When love reached its limits and tasted the juices of completion, the magic in which they were captive, broke. They looked at that branch and started weeping. The branch was of the same tree whose fruits were forbidden by the creator.
There was darkness for a while.
