  14. THE BEGINNING

For a few years, she had been enchanted by the same intoxication many a time. Dariush was engrossed in the sweetness of the spring and the surrounding nature, while Vidhi was trying to decipher her own situation. Hardly ten minutes had passed when a thick fog rose from the back of the hills. Vidhi saw it and before she could warn Dariush, the fog covered the spring and the valley around. Vidhi told Dariush in a loud voice that in this place, the clouds and fog covered the valley at any time and it started to pour. There was nothing to be scared of. Even after that Dariush’s heart had started beating faster. He was reminded of the pythons. He imagined that snakes were licking him all over. Dariush took a step further and spread his hands. He felt Vidhi’s body. She was silent. He moved a step further. He stood very close to her now. They could feel each other’s faces, though they could not clearly see each other. Vidhi held his left hand so that he didn’t slip in the water. For support, Dariush put his hand on Vidhi’s shoulder. Vidhi felt the heat in her body’s spring was still there despite the frost produced by the weather and the water. Her lips were warm with the heat of passion but she did not have the guts to proceed. It is said that cowardice is the death of passion. Vidhi did not want to retreat from where she had reached, so she bent her neck a little and kept her cheek on Dariush’s hand on her shoulder. Dariush felt the heat of Vidhi’s lips. That feeling created a blur over his eyes. The colour of the fog had turned to blue. He moved forward and took her cheeks in his hands and surrendered his lips to the burning kiln of Vidhi’s body. That moment seemed to be an achievement of her life for Vidhi. She had waited so badly for this moment to arrive. That one kiss opened up all the locks of her body. Behind the spring, within her was boiling lava which started overflowing. For half an hour, both lay there wrapped in the quilt of the blue and pink fog. No words were uttered. The soul was meeting the soul and the bodies were mere eternal, divine bridges. When the fog finally disappeared, they were standing under the spring of nature and smiling.
