“You’re sweet.” She smiles. “Thanks again, but I really am fine.”

And then she turns and walks away from me.

“We’ll be late for our reservation,” Melissa links her arm through mine. I try to drag my attention back to her, but who am I kidding?

I watch Jenn all the way to the corner.

Because I may not know her last name, or anything about her—save her mean right hook—but I know enough. And I’ll be damned if this is the last I see of her.

I let out a chuckle, and Melissa looks over, confused. “Nothing,” I say quickly. “Come on, let’s go to dinner.” I’ll let her down gently over some filet mignon, it’s the least I can do.
