(Micah tried to avoid referring to him as his dad even internally at work to avoid an unfortunate slip.)
“Is this about being late?” Micah asked. “Because I called ahead-”
Captain Hart waved off his concern before he even finished voicing it. “Jensen already said you planned to stay late to make up for it,” he said. “Though I assume you won’t make a habit of it.”
Micah shook his head, trying not to feel weirded out that Jensen was talking with the captain – his dad – about him. “Of course not.”
Captain Hart nodded. Then…
“You missed the game yesterday. Giants nearly won it this week.”
Micah frowned. He doubted his father had called him into his office to make small talk, let alone about football. While it was true that he watched the game with him most Sundays, Micah by far preferred baseball.
He went along with it, anyway. “Yeah, I know. Sorry about that. It was a… strange weekend,” he decided on after a moment.
The captain furrowed his brow. “I’m assuming I don’t want to know the details.”
Abram fully accepted that his son was gay – and he loved Micah no less for it – but he’d made it pretty clear early on that he didn’t want to know the details of his love life. If it was serious, he expected Micah to bring the man home so he could meet him, but that was about it.
Micah knew he’d feel the same way if he was into girls, so he didn’t take offense to it.
He thought of mouthing Damon’s dick in the back of the man’s Rolls-Royce. “That’s… probably a safe assumption.”
Abram nodded, and a semi-uncomfortable silence descended.
Micah knew his father had more to say, but he clearly wanted Micah to talk – to crack – first. It was a tactic he’d used often on Micah when he was a teenager and thought he was up to something devious.
Problem was, Micah had no idea what his father thought he was hiding. Micah licked his lips. “Is that all?”
After a long moment, Abram finally broke eye contact. He sighed. “No, there’s more. Dolores informed me about a disturbing incident that happened in the lobby at the end of last week.”
Micah froze.
There was no way his dad was talking about what he thought he was talking about.
