“-and get Damon tarred and feathered, got it?”
Micah grinned. “You’re going to be the coolest mom,” he said, offering her what remained of his pudding when he saw her eye it with interest.
“Yeah, well, my kids better not be little assholes like you.” She leaned back into her chair and dug into the pudding. “So, is this trip supposed to be like an early Christmas present or something?”
Micah blinked. “Huh?”
“I mean, Christmas is, like, a week away,” she pointed out. “Did I tell you I booked a vasectomy for Jasper as his gift? I am not doing this again.” She pointed down at her belly with her spoon. “Did you get Damon anything?”
Fuck.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN
What do you get a frickin’ billionaire for Christmas?
Micah had had a minor meltdown at the station about it much to Tessa’s amusement.
Of course, it didn’t help matters that Damon was picking him up early the next morning for their impromptu trip – 2:00 AM to be precise – which left only a handful of hours to pick out a present for the man.
Micah had racked his brain about what he knew about Damon.
He was a mafia boss, and a workaholic. He loved his family, but still kept them at arm’s length. His hobbies included working out (obviously), baking, and hanging out with Micah. He liked the Yankees (puking emoji) and pretty boys in pretty panties (insert purple devil emoji here).
Tessa was of the opinion that Micah ought to buy a lacy thong, bend over, and present himself as Damon’s gift. Micah had shot that idea down immediately. Even if the man didn’t outright reject him, Damon thought he was an ex-prostitute, and Micah suspected the man would interpret such a gesture as Micah offering to have sex with him in exchange for bringing him on a mysterious trip, which… no.
In the end, Micah had gone shopping in downtown Queens after work and had managed to find an adorable apron in a boutique with the caption “Don’t be afraid to take whisks!” printed in bold font along the front, atop a picture of a whisk. The fact that the apron was adorned with blue frills around the edges, nearly the same color as Damon’s eyes, was a bonus.
Micah loved it, and he may or may not have spent a chunk of his evening picturing Damon wearing the apron (and nothing else) as he fried Micah up a stack of delicious crepes.
Still, Micah couldn’t help but feel self-conscious about the gift. Damon was a billionaire, after all, and he could buy himself anything that struck his fancy. What made a punny apron special?
