Micah felt his face heat. Sure, his father had known that he and Damon were involved after the fiasco at Jason and Caprice’s house, but he hadn’t known the details.
How had he found out?
The question must have been written across his face because his father added, unprompted, “Tessa told me everything.”
A little zip of betrayal shot through him at the revelation, and Micah was unable to stop a scowl from forming.
“None of that now,” his father scolded. “She was worried as all hell when you disappeared, and considering the events of last week, she was convinced Damon had taken you and stashed you away somewhere, or hurt you, or worse. So was I. She was only trying to help by giving me a clearer picture of the situation.”
Knowing his father was right, Micah reluctantly nodded.
Does everyone at the precinct know?
“About Damon, and how you two met? No. Just Tessa, Detective Jensen, and I.” Abram winced. “Speaking of Tessa, the woman is going to kill me. I promised I would let her know as soon as you woke up. Just a second.” His father pulled out his phone. He wasn’t the most proficient texter, so it took him more than “just a second” to type up a message, but he eventually hit the “send” button. “There.”
Micah gave him a thumbs up.
Abram cleared his throat, shifting on his feet from where he continued to hover near the bed. “Now, about McCormick… eventually, you’re going to have to give a statement. Not to anyone at the precinct – conflict of interest, obviously. An agent from the bureau will probably conduct the interview, but if you want, I can go with you.” Micah must have made a face at that because Abram immediately backtracked, “I mean, not if you don’t want me to. It’s just… I guess what I’m trying to say is, if you feel like talking, I’ll listen – to anything you want to tell me.”
Micah appreciated what his father was doing – really, he did. He knew how hard it was for the man to be open with his emotions, and offering to be a listening ear for his son to recount all the ways he’d been brutalized by a madman was no small thing.
But the offer was a reminder that Micah wasn’t sure if his father knew that Ren hadn’t hurt just him. There had been so many other victims, so when he went to write on his whiteboard, it wasn’t to express his thanks, it was to make sure his dad knew the truth.
Ren = Hooker Hunter
Abram nodded gravely. “Yes, we know.”
Micah blinked. How?
