The room he was in was dark – there were no windows – and Micah strained his neck as he tried to take in as much of his surroundings as he could from his awkward position on the floor. There wasn’t much to see. There were some chairs and a piece of long wooden furniture pushed up against one side of the room (a pew?), and against the other side of the room, there was what looked like an old desk that had seen better days. On top of the desk sat a pile of clothes, neatly folded.
Micah’s clothes, to be precise – the diamond-studded Rolex Damon had given him perched innocently on top.
He’d been doing his best to ignore the fact that he was naked except for his briefs before then – a tricky task considering how sharply the cold of the cement floor bit into his bare skin.
He wasn’t mentally prepared to deal with the connotations of it – the least of which was that he’d been stripped down to his underwear while unconscious. He felt defenseless and exposed enough without that particularly fucked up detail flashing bright warning lights in his mind.
Ripping his gaze away from the clothes, Micah looked at the walls. They were bare except for the one directly in front of him, which featured a mass-produced painting of Jesus, all muddy browns and earth tones except the halo of light shining directly behind his head, and a small, metal crucifix.
That, combined with the frickin’ pew on the other side of him, made Micah suspect he was in a church. Taking into consideration how musty and stale the air was – not to mention the lack of windows – probably a church basement.
But who would kidnap a person only to drag them to church?
Ren, apparently.
The man hadn’t even bothered to tape Micah’s mouth shut – which either lacked foresight on Ren’s part, or was an ominous sign for Micah.
He was debating the merits of opening his mouth and shouting for help – on one hand, maybe someone who wasn’t his kidnapper would hear him, on the other hand, it would definitely notify his kidnapper that he was awake.
He hadn’t made a decision before the sound of the door creaking open behind him reached his ears. Judging by the lack of horrified gasp, it was his kidnapper. He could feel eyes roaming his form, and goosebumps broke out across his arms.
Micah cursed the fact that he was positioned so he couldn’t see who had entered the room – no matter how he strained his neck. (Though he knew by the way his body had gone into full fight-or-flight mode, that it was Ren.)
