In the center of the room was a massive king-size, four-poster bed, its curtains pulled back to reveal a dark green bedspread and more pillows than Micah had ever seen on a single bed barring that one time Tessa had dragged him into a Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
“So… what do you think?”
Damon seemed oddly nervous for someone who had looked and sounded so smug while showing him around the house. (Almost like he was trying to impress Micah. But that was silly.)
“I think this whole place is awesome,” Micah said honestly. “Why do you live in New York again?”
Damon smirked. “Business, mostly. Although, I have to admit, I’ve grown a certain… fondness for the people there. Well, a few people.” Micah was not going to read into that at all. “Do you really like it?” he pressed.
“Damon, it’s basically a castle,” Micah pointed out. “What’s not to like? I would have been impressed with a one-bedroom cottage.” He paused, glancing around. “Although, I’m not sure where I’m supposed to sleep?”
Damon frowned. “Here, of course.” He gestured at the bed.
Micah chewed his bottom lip. “Yeah, okay, but what about you?”
Damon blinked. “I… I suppose I thought the bed was big enough for the both of us.” He shook his head. “But that’s absurd to think you’d be comfortable with that. I’ll just-”
But Micah didn’t get to hear what Damon was going to do.
“I’m comfortable with it!” he practically shouted at the man. “That’s totally fine with me. I mean, the bed’s huge, and it’ll be less mess for housekeeping to deal with when we leave, so yeah… let’s just do that.”
Jesus, try not to sound too eager or anything.
“As long as you’re okay with it,” Damon hedged.
“Trust me, I’m beyond okay with it.”
Seriously, could you sound any more desperate?
Luckily, before Damon could question why exactly Micah was so keen to share a bed (like the answer wasn’t obvious), Micah’s stomach decided it was time to gurgle loudly. He offered Damon a sheepish smile. “Sorry, I didn’t have breakfast. You know, because of the sushi incident.”
Damon looked horror-struck. “Fuck, you’re hungry. I should have fed you as soon as we landed. You’re probably starving.”
“You didn’t have breakfast either,” Micah pointed out. He couldn’t help but feel the man was being a bit hard on himself considering Micah was a full-grown adult, perfectly capable of procuring food for himself if he so chose.
“It’s two in the afternoon,” Damon stressed, like he’d committed some unforgivable sin. He shook his head. “Anyway, the pantry and refrigerator should be fully stocked,” he said, taking Micah by the hand and pulling him out of the bedroom, presumably leading him towards the kitchen. “I can make you anything you want.”
