Micah had mixed emotions when he returned to their table to see Damon there, apparently waiting for him. Most people seemed to have congregated back into the main hall, and were either crowding the bars or waltzing on the dance floor.
The stress from his showdown with Marco must have shown on his face because Damon shot up from his seat as soon as he saw him, a frown pulling at his mouth. “Are you alright?”
Micah debated telling him about his uncle’s threats, but quickly dismissed the idea. It wasn’t worth the potential drama it would cause. “I’m fine,” he assured instead. “Just had to pee, like I said – you see, it’s a perfectly normal bodily function for us ordinary people.”
Okay, so maybe he was still feeling a little jilted from earlier.
Damon raised his eyebrows. “What does that mean?”
Oh, just that Damon was as far from ordinary as it gets. Micah still wasn’t completely convinced he was an actual human being – more like a godlike entity sent down from above (or more likely, below) whose sole purpose in life was to fuck up Micah’s moral compass and wreak havoc on his libido.
Micah just sighed. “It’s nothing.”
Damon didn’t seem convinced. Regardless, he didn’t push it. Instead, he nodded towards the dance floor. “Would you like to dance?”
Micah was taken off guard by the question, but a quick glance at the graceful, almost synchronized dancing made the answer obvious. “Considering the only dancing I know how to do is erratic grinding, I’ll have to pass.”
Damon snorted. “Waltzing is easy if you have a competent partner. I’ll teach you.”
Micah shook his head. “I can’t. Just… go ask Renata or something. I’m sure she’d leap at the chance.”
Annnd Damon’s frown was back. “I don’t want to dance with Renata.” He paused, examining Micah. “Nor do I want to rip off her clothes or ‘give her the D’, just to be clear. In fact, there’s only one person here I’m interested in fucking, and possessive asshole that I am, I’d never let anyone’s eyes but my own see them in such a vulnerable state.”
Had it suddenly grown about fifty degrees hotter in here or was it just Micah?
His face was burning hot, and his dick had taken approximately .5 seconds to go from soft to rock hard in his pants at Damon’s near-vulgar words. There was no way the man was referring to him, right?
But why would he say it to him then? And more importantly, what was Micah supposed to say back?
In the end, Micah took a deep breath in through his nose in an effort to calm himself and opted for what he considered a safe response. “Well, as long as it’s not Caprice you’re so passionate for, I’m not about to judge.”
