- About the Author
“Hello, so nice to meet you.” It’s my automatic response, been saying the same thing since childhood. They both smile back, but the slight flash in Reed’s eyes, and the look of confusion on Tess’s beautiful face… Yep, they know my mother.
“Can I get you a champagne…” Tess’s voice trails off. Maybe she’s waiting to see if I’m of age.
“She’s fine. So it looks as though this is a huge success? Gia must be thrilled.” Jett draws Tess’s rather stunned attention back to him, and thankfully away from me.
“The exhibit starts in that room, and it travels around like a spiral up the stairs.” She points with her glass.
My eyes follow to where she’s pointing. Jesus, it’s like out of a movie. When I say celebrities, we are talking A-list. I wish it wouldn’t be completely tacky to take pictures. Cher is going to freak.
Ammo and Rhys Granger stand, laughing and drinking, Granger with a casual arm slung around Gia, who’s smiling and talking to the fans surrounding them.
“And, Raven, there’s a bar over on the back side of the gallery if you’re thirsty. It has everything. Enjoy.” She smiles as Reed drags her toward a man who has to be a basketball player. He’s a head taller than Jett, who’s at least six three.
“You got a thing for rock stars?” His voice is at my ear as he places both hands on my hips, guiding us into the room with all the celebrities.
“No,” I say way too quickly. My face heats up.
“Liar.” I feel his breath on my neck. “I can introduce you, although Granger likes his wife. There’s Ammo.” His voice sounds almost bored. I look up at him, horrified. I know we’re not a couple, but I had no idea he’d be fine setting me up.
I take a deep breath. His eyes are focused on the photographs, and if it wasn’t for his clenched jaw and hands digging into my hips, I’d think he’d already forgotten about me.
“Sure. I love Ammo,” I gush. He nods, and his pulse beats strong in his temple. Maybe he’s not as casual as I thought?
Jett propels us toward them, pulling me close to whisper in my ear, “You sure you dare?”
And suddenly, I shiver. He sounds angry, yet he’s the one who started this game. Whatever…this has the potential to get out of hand. I turn to stop him because I’m not going to throw myself at Ammo just to prove to Mr. Powers that I don’t back down.
But it’s too late, because I’m standing in front of them, looking up at the blond perfection who is one of the best electric guitarists of my generation.
