“What?” Tara pushes herself against the wall. Olivina makes her command clear.

“Use your wand, and make them disappear. For good.”

“Tara! Don’t listen to her!” Raina cries.

“Do it!” Olivina shouts as tears stream down Tara’s face.

“Tara, listen to me,” I say softly. “You don’t have to do this. I’m sorry I didn’t understand what you were going through. I’m sorry I didn’t ask you what was really going on, but Olivina is wrong. You’re not alone anymore. You have us. You can fight her!” Tara looks away and back again. “I believe in you!”

“I don’t have a choice,” Tara sobs. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t do this!” Sasha begs.

“Finish them!” Olivina thunders.

Tara shakily points the wand at me, and Raina screams. Heath lunges for Tara, but in his weakened state, he’s too slow. I close my eyes and wait to disappear. But then, I hear something fall to the floor, and I open my eyes. Tara has thrown her wand.

“I can’t do it,” she tells her grandmother. “I won’t.”

“You listen to me, dearie,” Olivina says, advancing on her.

Boom! The doors to the room open, and Snow and Professor Pierce burst through them.

“Stop!” Snow thunders.

“Snow!” Olivina looks frazzled. “What are you doing here?”

“We know, Olivina,” Snow says sadly. “We’ve seen it all. Everyone has.”

“Olivina!” Hazel cries, running in behind them. “Stop talking! Your quarters are being projected on all of the mirrors in the banquet hall!”

“Everyone is watching,” Professor Pierce says. “The truth has finally been revealed.”

Olivina looks from the mirrors to Tara to me, and then she starts to shake. Her hands crunch up in desperation and she lets out an ear-piercing scream. It shatters the glass in the mirrors and makes the walls around us start to crumble. My friends and I dive for cover, but there’s nowhere safe to go.

“Look out!” Snow cries, as Professor Pierce pulls her out of harm’s way and into another room.

But it’s too late for us. We cling to each other and brace for impact, but nothing happens. I look up and realize Tara is standing over us, her wand creating a protective shell over our frames.

“Foolish, foolish children!” Olivina shouts. “You have no idea what you have done! All of Enchantasia will regret this.” She locks eyes with me. “You haven’t heard the last from me!” And with a wave of her wand, she’s gone.
