Unfortunately, mental health in the Regency era wasn’t viewed with the understanding we have today. In a time where suicide by laudanum overdose was a dark problem, and Bedlam was filled with ill people on parade (I won’t go into detail; it’s been an emotionally difficult aspect to research), we can all shudder at the lack of available care that many people needed. Mental health was just beginning to be recognized during this time, but for many, care for mental illness was too little and too late. No matter when people lived, it was always important that those affected by mental illness have support and the understanding that they were not alone. That is especially important today. There are resources available, and heaven only knows how many of us need to use those resources to manage the shifts in our world. There’s no shame in that, only a road to healing and recovery.

Here are some resources available, should you or a loved one ever need them:

• National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

• SAMHSA Treatment Referral Helpline: 1–877-SAMHSA7 (1-877-726-4727)

• National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) HelpLine: 1-800-950-6264, [email protected]

• National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): 1-866-615-6464

There are so many people who help cultivate, create, refine, and then repeat the process in bringing a book to life. I’m so thankful to each editor, proofreader, cover artist, publisher, and all the parts in between that make books like this possible. THANK you, Sourcebooks, for making the process a dream. Thank you to my family, who patiently works together to give me time to pursue this dream and write, and thank you to every reader!

Blame It on the Earl

A delightfully scandalous Regency romp from beloved author Jane Ashford

Sarah Moran might be the only unmatched lady relieved to return to the country after a busy London season. But when she saves Kenver Pendrennon from nearly falling into the sea while reveling in the fresh air of Cornwall, the rising tide forces them to seek shelter for the night. By the time they return in the morning, rumors have already begun to spread, and Sarah and Kenver—who is heir to an earl—must marry quickly to keep scandal at bay…

“Sweetly romantic Regency romance expertly spiked with danger.”
