- About the Author
I decided to test it out by picturing a creature that could “soar above the heavens”—a Chromatic Dragon, specifically the Blue Dragon. With an effort, I summoned the image of the magnificent creature into my mind. The room I was in faded away, replaced by a desert city. I wasn’t an expert on geography, but from the oasis beside it and the surrounding desert planes, I guessed that it must be somewhere in the Middle East or North Africa.
Mana stirred inside my torso and spread along my limbs. Inhabiting the dragon’s flesh gave me knowledge of the creature. With a rush, I understood that a dragon’s natural body wasn’t capable of flight; its mighty wings merely allowed it to glide. What allowed it to take off and to soar through the air was its natural cultivation abilities.
And I, now living in the dragon’s body, was the beneficiary of this magic.
I felt the air stir under my wings and rush over my open jaws. I tasted the air and smelled the world carried to me on the wind. I could go anywhere. Like some kind of organic radar, the horns on my head picked up a foreign entity along my flightpath. Through the dragon’s unique sensory perception, I was able to discern the entity’s shape—it was another dragon.
It wasn’t until I was a mile or so away that I spotted the creature. A large frilled crest started on the underside of the dragon’s snout and continued along its tail, which ended in barbed spines. Already, I could smell along the windcurrents the stench of chlorine gas. The other dragon’s stomach started to grow larger, until it was distended and bloated like a bullfrog.
In seconds, the Green Dragon would be within spewing distance, and its acidic gas would melt my scales and scald the soft flesh beneath. Before it could close the distance, I channeled magic along my lightning pathways and conjured a Tempest Slash symbol in my mind. Instinctively, I knew the spell and how to channel it.
The clouds above me gathered together, changing from fully white shrouds into dense gray specters. Azure lightning crackled within them, and my simple mental command caused one bolt to break free from the storm clouds. The spell forked through the sky and struck the Green Dragon directly on the stomach. The acidic attack it had been forming in its stomach detonated, and the Green Dragon’s scaled torso burst open, blood and gas mushrooming out from it in a gory blast. The wreck of the majestic beast plummeted toward the ground.
I could hardly believe my single spell from the body of the Blue Dragon had destroyed its green counterpart. It must have been so incredibly powerful. My amazement didn’t last, however, because the next time I blinked, I was seated on the chair, staring at Kyrine again.
