You really want your bull dog’s natural lightheartedness to always take the lead in life, and you can do a great deal to help him approach events with the laid-back demeanor that is also part of his essential character. Fundamentally, you want to try to avoid the heat of the moment; so step in to help him take it down a notch when his engine really gets running during play or other activities. Positive and mellow should be the goal throughout socialization, and good impulse control the goal throughout early training in life. While that brain of his is still developing, play games like Red Light, Green Light, in order to teach him how to turn it all off at the drop of a hat. You want a puppy who has been there, done that and knows how to ride life in low gear without hitting top speed.

Interests and Hobbies

He loves a good challenge. He is ambitious and is up for just about anything so long as it promises a good time. Using his profound physical strength in creative ways is usually at the top of the list for a bull dog; for instance: activities like couch hopping, toy shredding, rock climbing, tug-of-war, and rolling around with dog buddies. But then again so is spending the entire day laid out on top of your legs snoring in your king-sized bed. He is a magnificent contradiction at a glance—relentlessly entertaining in one moment and impossibly lazy in another.

He is surprisingly flexible and undemanding about what, exactly, it is that he needs on a day-to-day basis. A bull dog will make the most of any situation, and so makes an incredibly cooperative companion.
