‘Check up on them?’ Lily teased. Her husband had become besotted with both their children even before he’d set eyes on them, fussing more like a mother hen than anyone she’d ever known. ‘They’re fine. Safe, happy and free. Leave them to it,’ she said, reaching up to pull him into a kiss.
He gave her a smile that melted her heart. And then went off to find his daughter anyway and Lily didn’t bother to stop her eyes from rolling in loving exasperation.
‘Please tell me you brought the stuffed vine leaves,’ Zoe begged, her voice slightly hushed, trying not to wake Malie’s daughter, now fast asleep in her arms.
‘Ohhh, they are goooood,’ Malie groaned orgasmically.
‘Better than the almond croissants?’ Victoria asked, as if such a thing were impossible.
‘Nearly. We found this amazing place in Piraeus, just south of Athens, and the chef taught me how to make them,’ Lily replied, thinking fondly of their last holiday.
‘And the squid,’ Zoe replied, lost in the same food dream.
Over the years, Henry had made good on his promise to her that they would travel as much as her heart desired. Somehow her husband had discovered the most incredible locations, always rooted in some dish, or some cuisine he knew that Lily would either like or be curious about. They’d driven – crazily – down the Amalfi coast and flown over the Pyrenees. She’d cooked in Hong Kong, Sweden and New Zealand and she’d loved every single minute of it. But they’d always come home to Hawke’s Cove.
‘Yeah, yeah, yeah,’ Malie interrupted. ‘You know, for someone who wanted us all back in Hawke’s Cove for nearly ten years, you sure do get out and about.’
‘Where are you headed to next?’ Zoe asked.
Lily looked towards Henry. ‘Actually, I think we’re going to Tahiti.’
‘I have some incredible places to tell you about.’
‘Good! I want them all,’ cried Lily laughing.
Henry had also taken a bit of a step back from the company he’d founded with Ben. She and Mina had hit it off instantly and Ben, Mina and their three children were hoping to join them in Tahiti. Ben hadn’t minded at all that Henry had split his time between the app, the estate and their travels.
A month after Victoria’s wedding, the estate had re-opened for guests, and now included a highly sought-after wedding package offered under Lily’s guiding hand and two more grape varieties under Henry and John’s.
