‘Then please know that I want this. I want you. And,’ she said, half on a laugh, sure of herself and of him from the need flaring in his eyes, ‘please don’t make me ask again.’

His dark eyes, flecked with gold shone in that moment, just before he bent his head and pressed his lips against hers in a kiss that Lily would remember for the rest of her life.

He swept her up in his arms and the little squeal she made turned into a peal of laughter as he placed her on the bed gently. She couldn’t help but smile as he chased her up the mattress, a smile that almost stopped as she felt the entire length of him cover her as he framed her face with his hands.

‘You are the most beautiful person I’ve ever met, Lily Atwell.’

And suddenly she felt it, beautiful, right down to her very toes.

‘Only, there’s one thing in the way. My horrible T-shirt.’

Laughter turned to kisses, which turned to cries of pleasure as they fell into each other’s arms. A heady mix of sensation and passion that continued long into the night, cutting free chains that bound hearts, allowing them to soar above a sea of joy.

It was the most incredible night Henry had ever experienced. Never could he have imagined anything more perfect, or the way that it had made him feel. He knew, instantly, that one night would never be enough. One day, week or month. He wanted them all. But he couldn’t tell her that. Not yet. There was something he needed to do first.

CHAPTER TWELVE

LILY STIRRED AS SUNLIGHT from the uncurtained windows fell in shafts across the room. It had gently heated the sheets that she ran her hand over, and she stopped. Before even opening her eyes she knew that she was alone, sensed that Henry was gone.

She gave herself a moment to sink into the feeling, the way her body still hummed pleasurably after their night together. Over and over again they had reached for one another, losing themselves in touches, kisses, caresses. Still without opening her eyes, she drew her hand to her mouth, and ran her fingers gently over her lips where Henry had poured passion into her. And her heart felt both settled and completely energized. She marvelled at the heights of pleasure he had taken her to, almost shaking her head at the impossibility of feelings she never could have imagined.

Now she understood what Malie always joked about. It had never been that way with Alistair, but even that sad thought couldn’t dim the joy vibrating beneath her skin.
