She wanted to drop everything and fix it herself, but she didn’t have a clue where to begin. A five-foot, six-tier Alice In Wonderland inspired cake with a tipping tea pot as well as tilting tea cups and saucers would be so much easier to create. Not that she’d ever attempted such an ambitious cake—at least not yet.
With a frustrated sigh, she stepped out into the sunshine. It was time to meet up with Lily and Josie at The Lighthouse Café to go over the wedding shower plans. She knew her friends were more than capable of planning the event, but she felt bad they were doing what she’d volunteered to do.
A couple of minutes later, she entered the café. It wasn’t terribly busy. She waved to Fred and Martha Williams, newly retired and proud grandparents of Tommy and Susie. She knew most of the island’s permanent residents and those she didn’t know were friends of friends.
She joined Lily and Josie at a nearby table. “Hi.” As Hannah sat down, she noticed Lily in a fitted purple jacket with a pink top beneath it. She had a notebook open and a pen in hand. “What did I miss?”
Lily spoke up first. “We picked a beach theme since they’re having a nautical theme for the wedding. We thought it’d be fun.”
“It’s going to be a blast.” All attention turned to Josie, who was dressed for work at the inn with a navy skirt suit and a white blouse with a gold name tag. “I’ve picked out some games and ordered decorations.”
“And I’ve coordinated the dinner menu with the pub,” Lily said.
They showed Hannah all of their plans. She couldn’t believe how much they’d accomplished in such a short amount of time.
Hannah smiled. “Thank you. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay you.”
“I do,” Lily said. “Tell us how things are going with the bakery.”
“Yes, tell us about that and what’s up with you and Birdie’s nephew.” Josie waggled her brows.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Heat rushed to her face. “Nothing’s going on.”
There was a simultaneous, “Uh-huh,” followed by twin looks of disbelief.
Hannah ignored their implications about Ethan and instead gave them a brief overview of how things were going with the bakery. But just as quickly, the conversation returned to Ethan. They peppered her with questions.
With a resigned sigh, Hannah told them about the deal Ethan proposed. “And now his references have given him glowing recommendations. So I’m not sure what to do.”
“What’s to be unsure about?” Lily said. “I’ve seen him around town, and oh boy, is he cute. And if he’s willing to help you out, I’d jump on the offer.”
“Leave it to you to consider his hotness quotient first.” Hannah dramatically rolled her eyes and shook her head.
“Hey, you can’t deny that he’s some good eye candy,” Josie chimed in.
“And if he’s skilled with construction”—Lily steered the conversation back to the main subject—“I’d give him a chance. What could it hurt?”
