Yes teetered on the tip of her tongue. Without a listing in Bluestar’s tourist pamphlet, the bakery would lose a ton of advertising that would turn into revenue. But she bit back her answer.
Instead she asked, “How soon do you have to know?”
Sympathy reflected in Mayor Banks’s eyes. “That bad, huh?”
She shrugged and then nodded. “But I will figure it out. I just need a little more time.”
“I can hold out for a few more weeks but no longer. We need the pamphlets by the first of May.”
“I understand. I’ll let you know as soon as I have something certain.”
He nodded. “Sounds good. And if I can put you in touch with anyone to help, let me know.”
“I will. Thank you.”
She continued along the sidewalk when she glanced up and saw a familiar face. It was the man who’d helped her during the flood. Her heart skipped a beat. What was that about?
Sure, Ethan was kind of cute—okay, very cute. But she didn’t have time for anything remotely romantic. Her time was all spoken for.
He stopped in front of her and sent her a warm smile. “Good morning.”
“Good morning.” There was that funny sensation in her chest again.
When she gazed into his warm brown eyes, her heart definitely stuttered. There was something about him, as though he could see straight through her and see her deepest fears and her wildest dreams. She glanced away.
What was up with her? None of that was possible. Her gaze strayed back to him. She took in his handsome face with its strong jawline, his straight nose, and once more her gaze settled on his eyes, which reminded her of chocolatey goodness.
If she wasn’t so focused on salvaging the bakery, she might be tempted to ask him to join her for a lobster roll and milk shake at The Lighthouse. Nothing too serious, just a chance to get to know each other better. The idea was so tempting. And yet she hesitated.

Words tangled and caught in the back of his throat.
Ethan hadn’t been expecting to see Hannah here. Sure he’d wanted to see her—wanted to check on how she was making out. And yet with her standing in front of him, he was at a loss for words.
Every time he saw her, she grew more beautiful—from green eyes that sparkled with gold flecks to her full, pouty lips. If he were in the mood to date, he’d definitely ask her out. But after being dumped by his long-time girlfriend and his subsequent on-the-job injury that left him questioning himself and his career choice, he was certain he was better off on his own.
But they couldn’t just stand there on the sidewalk quietly staring at each other. He cleared his throat. “Hi.”
She smiled. “Hi. How’s your aunt doing?”
“She’s as feisty as ever and anxious to come home. She wanted me to tell you how bad she feels about the flood.”
