“But you’re almost there. Three more weeks and it’s opening day.”

“I’ll have to delay the opening if I can’t afford to get the inside finished.”

Lily pursed her lips together as though giving the problem some thought. “I don’t know anything about renovations, but I’m sure there are videos online that we can watch and learn from. They have videos for everything these days. We’ll figure it out.”

Hannah shook her head. “Thanks. But this is my problem.”

Lily shook her head. “Friends help friends.”

“Speaking of friends, you could help me out by coming to Amelia’s wedding shower.”

Lily’s dark brows scrunched together. “I hadn’t heard about a shower.”

“That’s because I just learned that no one was throwing her one. I felt so bad for her. I told her I’d do it. I just mailed a bunch of invitations this morning.”

“You’re such a good person.”

Heat rushed to Hannah’s cheeks. “I didn’t do anything you or Josie wouldn’t have done.”

“But you don’t have time to plan a party on top of opening the bakery.”

“I’ll make it work.” Hannah wasn’t sure how but she’d figure it out. “There isn’t much time to plan it, so it can’t be anything fancy.”

Lily nodded in agreement as she sipped her coffee. “Usually these things are planned well in advance, but we’ll do our best.”

“We?”

“Yes, I’m volunteering Josie to help plan the party. She just doesn’t know it yet.”

“But I can’t ask you to do it—”

“You didn’t ask. I’m offering since you won’t let me help with the bakery. Besides, you’d do the same for me. Wait. As I recall you did when I opened the Lily Pad. You and Josie are always there when I need you, so let me help you now.”

“Thank you.” Her voice wobbled. “I don’t know what I’d do without you and Josie.”

“And you’ll never have to find out. The only thing you have to worry about is finding a date to take to the wedding.”

“I’m not going with anyone.” Hannah said it firmly.

“You can’t go alone.”

“Why? You don’t have a date…do you?”

Lily shook her head. “But you haven’t dated one single person since Brad. Everyone is talking. They all think you regret breaking up with him.”

This was news to her. “They do?”

Lily nodded. “They all feel sorry for you. They’re talking about setting you up.”

“With who?” The thought of being set up with anyone horrified her. What could be worse than being expected to hit it off with someone you’re not the least bit attracted to?

“One candidate I heard mentioned was Agnes Dewey’s nephew, Ralph.”

Hannah resisted rolling her eyes. “Her nephew? Isn’t he in his forties or fifties?” Her nose curled up. “He’s way too old for me.”

“Well, there were some other younger candidates—”

“Never mind. I get the idea.” Suddenly finding a friend to go with her to the wedding had moved up on her to-do-list. “I’ll find someone to go with.”
