They both thanked him.

The mayor turned to Hannah. “I hate to put you on the spot, but I’ve delayed the printing of the tourist brochure as long as possible. Will the bakery be open at the beginning of May?”

“I…I don’t know. There’s still a number of things to do and Ethan has to go back to New York on Sunday.” Hannah worried her bottom lip.

“Include it in the brochure,” Ethan interjected.

The mayor’s brows rose as his gaze moved between them. “Are you sure?”

Hannah turned to him. “You can’t tell him it’ll be done, if it’s not.”

“Trust me. The bakery will be open by May first.”

Mayor Banks smiled. “That’s wonderful news. We’ll be looking forward to it.”

When the mayor walked away, Hannah turned to him. “What are you doing?”

“Trust me.”

“But Ethan—”

“Trust me.”

“What aren’t you telling me? And does this have something to do with the door being blocked this morning?”

“So many questions. Just give me a little more time and I promise I won’t let you down. When I leave, you’ll be able to finish what is left.”

“Ethan, there’s no way you can get all of that work done by yourself. I have to at least help you.”

He shook his head. “What you need to do is concentrate on the rest of the festival. After all, the highlight is tomorrow with the egg hunt.”

Uncertainty shown in her eyes. “But when it’s over, you can show me what needs to be done at the bakery and I’ll take over.”

He gave it a little thought and then said, “It sounds like a plan.”

“I just hope we don’t both regret you making such a promise to the mayor.” Her stomach knotted with nerves. So much was riding on the bakery opening on time.

They continued walking. Every now and then they paused to speak with friends. At last, they made it the whole way around the park. The fun was over for the day. And it was now time to clean up.

Hannah turned to Ethan. “You did great. Your aunt would be proud of you.”

“She would be proud of you—you did most of this.” He gazed deep into her eyes, making her heart pitter-pat. “I just did what you told me.”

His compliment meant a lot to her. “I…I should get moving.” But her legs refused to cooperate. She continued to stare into Ethan’s dreamy eyes. Oh, she was falling hard for him. “Um…there’s a lot of cleaning up to do.”

“What do you need me to do?”

Pull me into your arms and kiss me.

She swallowed hard. “There’s already a cleanup committee. So go. Enjoy the time with your parents.”

“But we’re still on for hiding the eggs, right?”

She’d asked him, as well as Josie and Lily, to help her hide the Easter eggs in the wee hours of tomorrow morning for the finale of Spring Fling. “Yes, we have a date tomorrow morning.”
