Author’s Note
For much of the last seven years, my husband’s job as an archaeologist for the US Navy has involved the process of assessing the potential for effects that Navy SEAL trainings in Washington State Parks could have on historical and cultural resources. Giving Audrey final approval over the Lake Olympus Lodge Exercise was no exaggeration on my part. My husband met with SEAL teams more than once to discuss their protocols for engaging with the environment when they train. They demonstrated their use of Simunition and other equipment. In one instance, my husband conducted a sensitivity training to alert SEALs how best to avoid harming cultural and historic resources. I laugh every time I think of my husband leading a SEAL sensitivity training.
Naturally, my husband’s work in this area led me to wonder what would happen if you had a top-secret training with unarmed SEALs in a remote area and the wrong people got wind of the exercise, and INTO THE STORM was born.
My fictional Lake Olympus Lodge is modeled after Lake Quinault Lodge in the Quinault Rainforest. It is truly a spectacular place to visit—even in January (the lodge is open year-round)—if you get a chance.

Fiona Carver Series
“Grant shines in the heart-pounding romantic thriller that opens her Fiona Carver series.”
Publisher’s Weekly (starred review)
In the remote and unpredictable Aleutians, danger comes without warning in an adrenaline rush of a novel by USA Today bestselling author Rachel Grant.
Archaeologist Fiona Carver has unfinished business in the Aleutian Islands. After an emergency evacuation cut her first expedition short, she’s finally back. But time is not on her side as she races to finish documenting the remnants of a prehistoric village, recover missing artifacts, and track down missing volcanologist Dylan Slater.
Having bluffed his way onto Fiona’s team with fake credentials, wildlife photographer Dean Slater is willing to risk more than federal prison to find his missing brother, but he needs Fiona’s help. She knows the inhospitable terrain better than anyone.
When the two set out together on a perilous journey, it becomes more than a recovery mission. In their fight for survival, nature isn’t the only threat. They aren’t the only ones on the hunt. Mile by dangerous mile, someone is hunting them.
