“I’d love to. Where would you like to go? You name the place, and I’ll make it happen.”
Amelia wrapped her arms around Byron’s neck and said, “Hmm…somewhere hot, with white sandy beaches and blue sea.”
“I think I know just the place, I own a nice little island in the British Virgins Islands.”
Amelia chuckled and shook her head. “Of course you do. Flash and glam as always, sweetheart. It’s going to take some getting used to being married to a billionaire banker.”
“I’m sure you’ll soon get the hang of it when my sister starts taking you shopping,” Byron joked.
Amelia looked down and sighed.
“What’s wrong?” Byron asked.
“Nothing, really.”
In Byron’s experience of three hundred years, a woman saying nothing, really meant there really was something wrong. She grasped Amelia’s chin lightly and met her eyes.
“Tell me.”
“I was just thinking. I mean, it’s silly really, but I always had this dream that when I got married I’d have the white dress, Uncle Jaunty giving me away, cake, and dancing, the whole fairy tale, I suppose.”
“Instead you got a vampire and a blood bond,” Byron said.
Amelia gave her a smile and a quick kiss on the cheek. “I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Everything had happened so fast that she hadn’t given Amelia anything she should have. They were bonded by blood for eternity, yes, but she hadn’t honoured Amelia’s human world, or her family. She needed to fix that as soon as their very real vampire problems were dealt with.
Amelia looked at her watch and gasped. “I’m so late.” She ran over to the bed and slipped into her skirt.
Byron walked over to the wardrobe and took out one of her suits. There was a knock at the door, so she quickly put on a dressing gown. “Come in.”
Katie walked in with a huge tray laden with food. She smiled and bowed her head to both Byron and Amelia. “Principe, Principessa, cook thought you might enjoy breakfast in bed.”
Amelia looked greedily at the delicious looking food, coffee, and juice. “That looks so good, but I’m just going to have to run out the door.”
“I’m sure your uncle won’t dock your wages just for being a few minutes late. Eat some breakfast with me, please?”
Amelia was torn.
Katie started to pour out two cups of coffee for them, and said, “I’m sure Daisy will hold the fort for you.”
“Okay, okay, give me a minute.” Amelia picked up her phone and walked off to her dressing table to call into work.
Katie brought a cup of coffee over to Byron, and said, “How are you feeling, Principe?”
“Perfect, now that I have Amelia.”
“Congratulations, I never got the chance to say that,” Katie said.
