Amelia’s eyes fluttered open as the alarm on her phone rang. It was Monday morning, the start of another workweek, but this was a very different Monday morning than she was used to. It wasn’t grey, lonely, and devoid of love. No, she was loved and sharing a bed with the love of her life. She reached for the alarm and set it to snooze. Byron lay contentedly beside Amelia, her arm draped across her middle.
Amelia stroked her brow. It was wonderful that Byron didn’t need to run and hide from her any more. She knew Byron’s truth.
She scooted closer and began placing soft kisses on Byron’s face. “Sweetheart, wake up. I have to go to work soon.”
Byron stirred, stretched, and then wrapped her arm around Amelia. “No, stay in bed. Why do you have to work? You’re the wife of a multibillionaire banker.”
Amelia knew she was only half joking. She knew Byron would be happier if she didn’t take the risk of going to work with the Dreds’ threat hanging over them.
“Because it’s my life, my family business, and who would make your suits and keep you dapper if I didn’t? Besides, I’m not sitting around getting my nails done while you manage the world’s banking industry.”
“If you insist, but I was thinking. Would you like to have this house renovated and make it our home, or get something new? My penthouse isn’t really a warm family home.”
Amelia loved that idea. That meant she could live with Byron but still remain close to her uncles, and the shop.
“That’s a great idea, and it would be somewhere for Sera to stay when she’s with us.”
“Exactly,” Byron said, rolling on top of her. “Why don’t you take charge of the project and make it the house you want.”
Byron could see the excitement written all over Amelia’s face. It felt wonderful and warm to share these moments with Amelia. It just reminded her that she wasn’t alone any more, and the darkness inside her had Amelia’s light to keep it where it belonged.
“I might bring down your bank and all the financial markets with the shopping and purchases we’ll need.”
Byron chuckled. “I doubt it. I have very deep pockets.”
“Lucky me, then. What a good catch you are. A billionaire banker, super vampire”—Amelia tenderly stroked her face—“and a heart that will love me for eternity.”
Byron could feel her morning hunger grow with every second she looked into Amelia’s eyes.
“You’re hungry, sweetheart?” Amelia asked.
“It’s not that bad,” Byron lied. She didn’t want to disrupt Amelia’s morning.
