- About the Author
- Beauty and the Beast meets Taming of the Shrew in this laugh-out-loud Regency romance that New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean calls “smart and sexy.”
“What would you have happen in your bloody castle?” she asked, her words soft over the wild thump of her heart. If she was to die or kill and go to Hell for it, she wanted to know first what happened if she let the fire in her rage unchecked. She wanted to know the pleasure Cain’s molten kiss promised before war and death took all pleasure away.
“Cain Sinclair.” She waited until he stopped before the keep door and turned his face down to hers again. Her finger dropped down from his cheek. “What will you do to me, if I say yes to…everything?”

Cain’s breath seemed to stop as Ella watched him stare down into her face, her question making him freeze where he stood outside the keep doors. Sword-wielding warriors could not stop him, and yet her question had turned him to stone.
He shifted, letting her legs lower, and her feet touched down on the stone threshold. She did not move away. He likes claws. Her fingers curled into his tunic as she met his gaze with a bold stare. Could she handle the carnal fire she knew must burn within him, all that raw power coiled and ready to strike?
“Ella,” he said, his tongue sliding across her name in a way that made the spot between her legs clench. He leaned closer so that their lips were only inches apart. “If ye let me, I promise to bring ye to shattering ecstasy, lass.” She shivered at his words. “I will taste your heat and strum and touch every part of ye that aches until ye are whimpering and thrashing in wildness beneath me.”
Her lips parted, and she watched his gaze move to them before rising again to her eyes. “Tell me now, Ella, if ye do not want that, and I will…leave ye be.”
The pain in his face told her he spoke the truth. This ruler of men and terror to many was leaving her seduction completely up to her. The power that he’d given her was huge and emboldening. She placed her palms over his shoulders and released her breath. With it came all the truth that bubbled up within her.
“I ache, Cain,” she whispered. “And I want to know what it feels like to…to shatter.”
He inhaled through his nose, his gaze dropping to her lips, and she parted them. “Make me thrash in wildness,” she said.
A groan came up from his chest, and he pulled her to him, his mouth descending to cover hers in much more than a mere kiss. It was a ravishment of her mouth. She slanted against him, unleashing her own wildness, and felt him mold her up against his thick length. She pressed higher, feeling his jack rub the ache at the crux of her legs.
