Amidst this frightening reality, perhaps it is time to reevaluate our strategies, refocus our message, and reallocate our resources to the places where the real battles are won and lost. For example, what if we began thinking of the abortion debate in terms of love? One author explains:

What if we saw each pregnancy as a new opportunity for love, an irreplaceable gift that challenges us to love anew?… In the big picture, love is the far more powerful way of looking at the world. Love is the game-changer. People die for love; they stretch their energies and resources for love. They move to the farthest ends of the earth for love. They take on the greatest challenges for love. They fast, tighten their belts, work extra jobs, and lose sleep for love. Love moves us to find a way. It is the most deeply human dimension of our lives, because it is at the same time the most deeply rooted in the divine. Every child must be special to us because each one is special to God.13

What if our strategies better reflected the selfless love of God? What if more Christians began to make sacrifices—big and small—to spread the love of God by either supporting or participating in ministries to the unborn?

One small way we have attempted to do this is by supporting the crisis pregnancy centers in our city. In the area surrounding Shadow Mountain Community Church in El Cajon, California, there are two crisis pregnancy centers that help young women make the right choices concerning their unborn children. In that same area, there are twelve Planned Parenthood centers to help young women make the wrong choices concerning their unborn children.

Early in 2012, we decided to partner with those two crisis pregnancy centers in a new way by helping to raise money for their ministries. They are, like many similar ministries across the country, funded almost entirely by pledges raised at an annual banquet.

These heroic centers save the lives of hundreds of innocent unborn, as well as the spiritual lives of their confused and guilt-ridden mothers. But unlike the well-funded and government-supported Planned Parenthood organization, there is no national network providing them with support. Most were started by local churches or groups of concerned Christians in the community. They are not sophisticated. They simply help young pregnant women make the right decision about their unborn children, arrange for good prenatal care and, in some cases, help the girls place their babies in Christian homes.
