“We still have to figure out the second part of the riddle,” Kylie said, as Matt stepped behind the telescope and peered into the eyepiece, careful not to move it at all. “Maybe it’ll tell us where Elephant and Nacho actually are.”

“Good thinking,” Becca said. “Okay. What has bark but no bite?”

Danny turned the camera toward Matt suddenly as he noticed that Matt hadn’t moved from in front of the telescope. “What’s going on over there, Matt?” he called over. “You look like you found something interesting.”

“Tree,” Matt responded, a wide grin slowly spreading over his face as he took in what he could see through the telescope. “Tree!”

“Yeah,” Becca said in a weird voice. “There are things outside called trees, Matt . . .”

“No,” Matt said, looking up from the telescope with a laugh. “What has bark but no bite? A tree. And this telescope was pointed directly at the one in the front yard. And, even better, there’s a green GM symbol spray painted on one of the higher branches.”

Becca rushed over to the telescope, stepping in front of Matt to get a look. “Yes!” she cried out. “He’s right. So the answers to the riddles are Elephant and tree. I can only guess that means that Elephant is in the tree.”

“Didn’t you mention something about a clue that never ended up landing before?” Miguel asked. “Something about silkworms and webs in a tree? Do you think that could help with this?”

“Definitely possible,” Becca agreed. She frowned—they’d cracked the code of where to find Elephant, sure, but they were still faced with the same problem as before. They needed to get outside somehow, but as always, they were stuck inside. How were they supposed to get out? She stared at the tree, thinking.

“So close, yet so far,” Danny said with a sigh. “I hope we figure this out soon. I’m almost on my last battery for my camera.”

“It’s getting late, too,” Frankie added. “I don’t have much longer before I need to be home for dinner or my mom’s gonna flip.”

Becca nodded. There would be trouble if she was late, too—she always came home on time, so if she didn’t, her parents would know right away that something was up. They’d probably get extra worried and call Matt’s parents, and then Matt’s parents would say that Matt hadn’t gotten home yet either, and then they’d be even more worried.

“Same,” Miguel said. “I bet Angel is wondering where the heck I am. I promised him earlier that we’d play video games today—whoops. Hopefully bringing Elephant home will be enough to make up for it, though.”

“This is the last obstacle,” Becca said. “That tree is the final destination, I just know it. We just have to figure out how to get there.”
