“We’re going to have to gather as much context as we can,” Kylie said. “From the words that are already included. Usually, the person filling out the mad lib isn’t the one reading it. That’s how some people get wild answers that are hilarious, but since we’re all able to see the rest of the words that are included, we’ll be able to at least figure out the area of the cosmos it’s going for.”
“Exactly,” Frankie said. “We should hopefully be able to piece it together little by little, if we follow the text’s lead.”
“Oh, you’re right,” Becca noted as she read over the paper. “Look at this first line: This is the story about the history of this ____. Noun. Taking into account the matching blueprint, I think we can assume that the missing word is house?”
“Yes,” Kylie said, picking up a nearby pen to scrawl the word in. “But it doesn’t look like all of the lines are as easy as that one was.” She frowned as she read through the next one silently. “See, this one shows the definition of some word related to a record player, but I’m not sure what it could be.”
Matt peered over the parchment to see what the line was. This is the story about the history of this house. A man and his wife loved it so much, and lived in it for so long, that they died in it. Even after they died, they couldn’t bring themselves to leave.
“Okay,” he said under his breath as he kept reading. “This is getting spooky.”
“It is,” Kylie agreed. “What sort of story is this, anyway?”
Their ghosts stayed behind, the puzzle went on. They loved to play music on their _____, which was a sort of old record player that was an advancement in the phonograph.
“How are we supposed to know what the correct term is?” Danny wondered as he filmed the group hunched over the table with the parchment on top. “Do you think that’s what the Game Master meant when they said follow the books?”
Kylie stood straight up. “Oh my gosh,” she said, turning to the camera. “You’re right, Danny. We’re literally surrounded by potential resources that could help us figure out what the answers might be.”
“It’s just like when we were summer schooled,” Frankie observed. They walked over to the bookshelves and started sorting through. “When we had to figure out the clue about the dumbwaiter.”
Matt went to browse a different section of bookshelves, and so did the others. At first, he worried that there were too many books to have a hope of finding the correct answer, but after ten minutes of searching, Becca let out an excited little shriek.
