  76. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“Hello,” I answer. My voice is thick with sleep.

“Dude! Are you fucking sleeping? Get your ass over here! Where are you?” Anderson shouts. Loud music pounds in the background.

“What? What time is it?”

“It’s almost midnight. Everyone’s wondering where you are!”

I groan.

“Get your ass over here with Vivienne. Or else I’ll just keep calling!” Anderson threatens before he hangs up. I look at my phone. Sure enough, it’s quarter to midnight.

I look over at Viv, still sound asleep. She may be an early riser, but she sleeps like the dead.

I lean over and start kissing my way along her arm. She rolls against my body and lets out a soft moan that’s much more effective at waking up my body than Anderson’s shouts were.

“What time is it?” she mumbles, opening one blue eye.

“Almost midnight,” I reply. “Anderson called. He wants us to come to his party.”

Viv groans, and I laugh. “I had the same reaction. But he said he’ll keep calling until we show.” On cue, my phone buzzes again.

Viv grunts, but then rolls over me and off the bed. “Okay, but I need to shower first. Can you call Michael and have an agent bring my bag up? They’ll also want to tag along to this shindig.”

It takes me a while to respond as I watch her enter the bathroom, still completely naked. I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the sight. Belatedly, I call back, “Sure.”

Water starts running, and I have to force myself to focus and comply with Viv’s instructions. I pick up her phone and call Michael. It doesn’t even ring before he answers. He must keep it glued to his hand.

“Princess?”

“Uh—no, it’s Jace,” I inform him.

“Is the princess all right, Mr. Dawson?”

“She’s fine,” I rush to assure him. “She asked me to call you and have her bag brought up. And also to let you know we’ll be leaving in about fifteen minutes.”

“I’ll have her bags sent immediately,” Michael responds. “Might I ask where we’ll be heading to at this hour?”

“A party,” I admit.

Michael heaves out a sigh. “I see.” His voice is heavy with disapproval. “Let us know when you’re ready to depart.”

There’s a knock on the door only a couple minutes later. I pull on a pair of athletic shorts and open it to reveal two of Viv’s agents, carting three large suitcases. I grin. “These all Viv’s?”

One of them smiles. “Yes.”

“Okay, I’ve got them from here,” I tell them both, realizing one look inside of our room would make it pretty clear how we spent the afternoon and evening. Neither of them argues with me, seeming relieved to abandon the heavy suitcases. I drag them one by one into the room and shut the door.

Viv steps out of the bathroom with a fluffy towel wrapped around her, a cloud of steam trailing behind.

“Your ‘bag’ arrived,” I inform her, nodding to the stack of suitcases.
