  76. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I feel him smile against my lips before pulling away to beam down at me. I feel a giddy smile spread across my own face in response.

“I’m supposed to help Joseph warm up,” Jace tells me. “We can leave right after.”

“It’s fine. I can sit through a football game,” I inform him.

“That’s not what you said after your last Lincoln game.”

“Well, I had to spend it listening to twenty girls going on and on about how hot you are after you had just ditched me for a week.”

Jace flashes me his signature cocky grin. “Only twenty?”

I roll my eyes. We walk closer to the divider.

“Do you have agents with you?” Jace asks, looking at the large crowd that’s congregated around the section I was sitting in.

“Yes, but they’re outside. I thought my attempt at an inconspicuous entrance might be difficult with an armed escort.”

Jace snorts once, but then sobers. “Call them, get them inside here. Now.”

“Jace, I really—”

He skewers me with one hard look. “Viv.”

I relent. “Fine.”

We stare at each other for a moment, reconciling the fact that the past few minutes just forever altered the course of both of our lives.

“I’ll come find you after the game, okay?” Jace finally says.

“I’ll be the one surrounded by big men with guns,” I respond.

Jace smirks. “Very reassuring.” He gives me a quick kiss that leaves me breathless before he strides back toward his abandoned chair. I turn to climb back over the partition and take my previous seat next to Katie. She looks over at me expectantly as I settle down next to her.

“It seemed like that went well,” she suggests, smiling broadly.

I nod and smile, biting my lip.

She squeals and begins bouncing in her seat. “Thank God that security guy picked me as your roommate. I mean, you snagged Jace fucking Dawson. I felt like I couldn’t really freak out about it before, because you were upset, and then you left, and then you were engaged to that other guy, but now…” She breaks off her enthusiastic speech. “Why does he look annoyed?”

I glance over at Jace to see he’s already looking at me. When I meet his gaze, he raises his eyebrows expectantly. I roll my eyes but comply with his silent request, fishing my phone out of my jacket pocket.

“He wants me to call in my security team,” I inform Katie, unlocking the phone and pulling up Michael’s number.

I don’t miss Katie’s “Aw.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s super sweet,” I grumble. “He’s not the one who’s going to get a twenty-minute lecture about how I should have let them come along in the first place.”

Michael picks up the phone after a single ring. “Princess?” His tone is urgent.

“I’m fine,” I reassure him. “But I think a few people might have an idea about who I am…”

Katie lets out a guffaw at the understatement.

“And by that, I mean the whole stadium knows I’m here.”
